Restructuring/Updating Scripts/Plugins Pages

Restructuring/Updating Scripts/Plugins Pages

I’m in the process of restructuring the way that files are downloaded from RPG Maker Times, particularly in the RMMV/JGSS section. This is in light of something that I completely overlooked and recently discovered. Previously, RMMV has been downloadable from Pastebin. However, due to the way that Pastebin saves the files this has been causing problems with the plugins. I’ll be removing Pastebin from the download options and providing alternative download files: Directly from RPG Maker Times and from Dropbox. These will be ZIP’d to include the Terms of Use for each plugin. Some plugins will also be downloadable from RPG Maker MV as well; these will link directly to…

Is It Legal To Change The Game.exe Icon?

I came across a question a few weeks ago about the legality of using such software as Resource Hacker to change the Game.exe icon, so I thought I’d answer it. First of all, according to the EULA: Licensee shall not reverse engineer, de-compile, or disassemble the Software. which means, in short, that technically it IS illegal, since you’re modifying something that is part of the "Software", i.e. RPG Maker. With that said, however, you’re not actually directly modifying the software itself, only the game’s icon for creating shortcuts. And, since there isn’t an apparent option for the INI to use an icon, for some developers having a game-exclusive icon is…

RPG Maker Times Retroactive Refit

Since the migration to Dreamhost, and since I have 15 days off, RPG Maker Times has been left half-done. So I decided to go through the entire blogsite – with a fine-toothed comb – and retroactively fix anything I find amiss. Things like duplicate pages or posts, missing images, layout issues and other miscellaneous anomalies are all being fixed. The main menu is being restructured with a better, easier-to-navigate, customized menu so pages and other sections will be easier to locate. Some of the main graphics or featured images are also being overhauled. This is to try and bring it up-to-date and improve the blogsite’s overall aesthetics. I’ve separated the…

Running RPG Maker on Steam

This is in response to a recent comment I received, although it didn’t show up because it was through Disqus. Google has since changed its API integration and so the two can no longer handshake because (presumably) Disqus hasn’t updated it their end. The comment was regarding being able to use RPG Maker (specifically RM2K3) on multiple machines. Yes, it IS possible to install Steam and any of the RPG Makers on multiple machines. However, you can only log into Steam on one computer. I have Steam and all the RPG Makers still installed on my old computer and now my new one as well. They’re hooked up on a…

The “Complete Chests Tutorial” Is Being Updated

The Complete Chests Tutorial

The Complete Chests Tutorial is finally being given a long overdue update! Since my recent purchase of the officially translated version of RM2K3 from Steam, I decided to finally bring this tutorial up-to-date. I’m basically rewriting them but using the tutorials as templates and adding some additional features as well. Included will be some new chapters, which again were planned but never fully implemented. A downloadable demo will be available for each RPG Maker. Maps will be unique to each but the basic principles will be the same throughout. The demos will be more puzzle-orientated as well. Once complete, the Complete Chests Tutorial will also be uber-updated.

Changes For All Downloads

Scripts/Scriptlets As of 31 March, 2015, scripts and scriptlets will no longer be downloadable directly from this website. Instead, they will become available on my Pastebin account. Manuals Any manuals for the scripts, notably the Q-Engine and its add-ons, will be hosted and available for download elsewhere too. Most likely this will be Google Docs. Tools & Utilities The tools & utilities I’m currently hosting here will also be removed from the site and hosted elsewhere or links for direct downloads (for those that are still available) will be given instead. Reasons The reasons behind this are manifold, but the major one is that, due to rapid and unexpected growth…

Map Music In Battles Scriptlet (RMXP) – New Scriptlet

Map Music In Battles Scriptlet (RMXP)

The Map Music In Battles Scriptlet enables the current map BGM to play throughout battles without pausing, disabling the battle BGM and victory ME completely. This was based on a question at Yahoo! Answers, so I decided to expand it slightly and add functionality to make it easier to toggle on or off. The scriptlet conveniently includes a script command to be able to turn it on or off during the game, either in a script or in the "Script" event command.

Scripts/Scriptlets Updates

I have two days off (from tomorrow) so will spend the time tweaking and updating all Scripts/Scriptlets. They’ll also be uploaded to Pastebin, providing the option to copy and paste them directly or download a text version from the site. Saturday is my last work-night before I have a week’s holiday, which will give me the chance to finally make some proper progress on my project, Otherworld. I’m hoping to finally publish Version 4.0 of the Q-Engine, along with its add-ons, following some additional testing and tweaks. We’ll see how things go. My priority IS Otherworld, however, and creating something of more substance.

Gold Comma Separators Scriptlet

If, like me, you hate the way large numbers are displayed without any separators, thus making it hard to read, then you’ll want the Gold Comma Separators Scriptlet for your games. What this does is separates large numbers with a comma every three blocks of numbers. Thus, 100000 becomes 100,000. That’s way easier to read! (Incidentally, it took me ages to figure out how to successfully do this!) Edit: An error occurring in RMVXA has been fixed. To achieve this, we attach .to_s.reverse.gsub(/(d{3})(?=d)/, ‘\1,’).reverse to the $game_party.gold. This is done differently in each RPG Maker. Copy and paste these somewhere between Materials and Main Processes (or after the main scripts…

Exporting RPG Maker Games To iPhone, Android, Etc.

Exporting RPG Maker games to iPhone, Android and other platforms is perhaps one of the most requested features for developers and users alike. This is especially true with the rise in popularity of "mobile" devices, such as phones and tablets. As a result technology demands further needs for exporting RPG Maker games to these formats. It’s been tried and tested, of course, with some measured success, especially with RPG Maker (XP, VX and VX Ace) working to some degree on Linux/Ubuntu. A direct port of any RPG Maker to other platforms has too many technical problems to make it viable, especially since it uses Windows-reliant technology to run. There are…
