What’s Been Going On? What Happened?

It certainly has been a long time since I updated this blog. I’m still here, still plodding on, but what happened? YouTube Pushback When YouTube introduced their new monetization criteria for channels, my channel was demonetized for not meeting them. It pushed me back. I became enraged and felt as though the rug was pulled aggressively from under my feet. Many others feel the same way too! This happened right when RPG Maker Times‘s rebranding (including its YouTube channel) was almost complete. Fueled by the emotional response, I started looking for alternatives to YouTube and ultimately became distracted by other things, other projects, and other avenues. This meant that I…

QEngine: Message Add-On Plugin Showcase

QEngine: Message Add-On Plugin

The video showcase of my upcoming RPG Maker MV Message Add-On plugin for the QEngine is online. Showcase Video The following video details the text codes available for the Message Add-On plugin, but not how to use them (that’s in the help file). Both the QEngine and Message Add-On plugins aren’t available yet, except for my valued beta-testers. What Is The QEngine? For those who don’t know, the QEngine is a core plugin I started writing (and continued writing on and off) for awhile now for RPG Maker MV. Its main purpose is to add extra functions to enable cross-compatibility and usability with most (if not all) of my plugins,…

QEngine: Message Add-On Showcase – Uploaded Later

QEngine: Message Add-On Plugin

A bit later today (if all goes well), I’m showcasing my Message Add-On plugin for RPG Maker MV on YouTube. This is one of the add-ons for the QEngine, on which it relies to function. You can add things like full name, gender and gender-based pronouns to messages; things that aren’t in other message plugins. The QEngine‘s scheduled release (including its current add-ons) for this month is deferred. However, some of my beta-testers found some bugs or have made suggestions, so I’m dealing with them first.

Spring Cleaning and Renovation

RPG Maker Times Blog

After my previous post, Neglected But Not Forgotten, I started thinking. Since yesterday was officially the First Day of Spring, I figured it was time to spring-clean the site. Careful Consideration After carefully considering on the best course of action for this, I decided to drop support for 2K3 and XP. These two RPG Makers seem less predominant nowadays, and besides I no longer actively use them. While some game developers may still use them, according to general statistics, their usage is less frequent in favor of VX, VX Ace and MV. Hence, the decision. Most of the current posts containing references to 2K3 and XP will remain intact. However,…

Message Codes Plugin Update 1.6

RPG Maker MV Plugins

For the Message Codes Plugin, as well as some tweaks and bug fixes, the following have been added: The main update is Text Alignment, where text can be aligned left, center and right. This is what I call “true form alignment” because it doesn’t have additional whitespace when centring. Note: It’s far from perfect, but it’s functional and roughly centers the text in the window, although I’m not sure how or if Yanfly’s Message plugin affects this, as I haven’t had a chance to test that. Other updates are: Number of Saved Games: Display the number of saved games you have. Plugin Parameters: Added some plugin parameters so you can…

Tutorials Section Revision

RPG Maker Times Blog

I revised Tutorials & How-To’s section today. Why the Revision? I deemed it necessary to revamp the section because it had become rather cluttered. This is especially the case now with the increasing number of Smile Game Builder tutorials. It was time to review the section and reorganize it. So, RPG Maker and Smile Game Builder have their own sections. In time, I’ll further slimline it, where I’ll delete the least used or least visited pages. Since RPG Maker Times no longer actively supports RM2K/3 (I just don’t use 2000 or 2003 any more, even though I bought them both), much of the content will become redundant or archived. And…

RPG Maker MV Update V1.3 – V1.3.1

RPG Maker MV

RPG Maker MV 1.3 is here! For Steam users, updates are automatic. If, however, the standalone version needs manual updating. PIXI v4 Update It’s not without its issues, the inevitable "update blues". But most notably is the large portions of code restructure, which renders many plugins incompatible. This is particularly noticeable with PIXI. If properly installed, the above image displays in the developer’s console. Many of the PIXI filters I used in Otherworld cause errors since updating. It’s not really a big deal going through and rewriting the code to fit; it’s just very time-consuming! Especially for those who have produced a LOT of plugins. Encryption One of the biggest,…

Google+ Social Media Buttons Update

Social Media Buttons Plugin v1.7

The Social Media Buttons/In-Game Website Plugin is now at Version 1.7. (I should really shorten its title.) I added support for sharing your Google+ accounts. And also tweaked the buttons for dynamic positioning, depending on which ones you use. Future Updates Notes Although this plugin remains unfinished, most likely, there won’t be any further updates for awhile. From Version 2.0 (the final version), I expect no further updates. While it IS possible to add in the option to share an in-game screenshot and content from within RMMV, it’s not as easy as it may sound. This isn’t necessarily from a developer’s perspective, but from the end-user perspective. I don’t want…

Windowskins and Other Sections Updates

Windowskins Awhile ago, RPG Maker Times had its own windowskins subdomain, but it merged with the main blog. The main reason for that in the first place was actually because it of its shared server. Downtime was frequent as a result, sometimes for hours. I was usually unaware of the downtime. The previous web host wasn’t at fault. It was the price of having a website steadily increasing in popularity on a shared server. Kind of like a baby outgrowing its diapers. So I had to make a decision and find somewhere else more suited to the blog’s needs. And, since changing to Dreamhost and upgrading to a VPS, downtime…
