RPG Maker 2003 Official English Translation

Yes, it’s official! RPG Maker 2003 has been officially translated into English and is now available on Steam. I just bought it to add to my Steam collection. I now have them all in one convenient place. When I first discovered RM95 all those years ago, and then RM2K, even though they weren’t officially translated into English, when RM2K3 was "released" it put me on a life-changing journey. I’ve not looked back since. RPG Maker 2003 is actually what really got me started. I’d played all the classic RPGs, like Final Fantasy, Chronotrigger and Ys: The Vanished Omens and always wanted to create my own games. With RM2K3, I was…

Sprite Icon Tutorial for RPG Maker

Here’s a simple tutorial for creating custom RPG Maker icons and sprite sheets in GIMP (Photoshop should work as well since they have similar functions). I’ve been using GIMP for years and this tutorial taught me a few things as well. This doesn’t go into too much detail on how to create quality icons, but it does give you an idea and provides the easiest way to do so.

Updates: Lost & Found

I was going through some of my old DVDs and found some RPG Maker materials (including projects) I thought were long gone. There’s a lot of RM2K3 stuff I thought were lost for ever, so I had to reinstall it to check it all out. These are some of the discoveries:

Wulf's Choice Award – Coming Soon

With so many good quality games and software available for RPG Maker, both commercial and non-commercial, I decided to create the Wulf’s Choice Award. Not only is this to give games creators recognition for all their hard work, but also to provide them with kudos for well-crafted RPG Maker games. I’m still working on the "ratings system", with which I’m aiming to give a fair assessment of the key areas involved: graphics, sound/music, gameplay, storyline, scripts and additional features (such as mini-games and side-objectives) for games, and functionality, features, usefulness and presentation for utilities. Along with either a mini-review or a full review, the Wulf’s Choice Award will be given…

NPC Interaction – Fun With Events

This was a question on Yahoo! Answers a while ago, which I answered and thought I’d share. Although initially tailored for RM2K3, RMXP, RMVX and RMVXA are also included here. The basic idea is that while the Hero is walking around, someone shouts hello, the Hero turns and that person walks (or runs) up to him and they start conversing. Read the full tutorial

RPG Maker Times Blog v6

RPG Maker Times Blog

Welcome to the RPG Maker Times blogsite. Version 6 has been moved to Dreamhost. This web host is highly recommended! It’s fast, secure and affordable! Anyway, the blog has a new, more dynamic layout. It was redesigned to reflect the changes to the blog itself. I’m updating the style sheets slowly so that I can focus more on content. Many pages have been (or are being) merged, deleted or revamped accordingly. While I don’t have the time to update earlier posts, new updates will still be posted, of course. These include upcoming games (notably for RMMV), projects or plugins of note. From February 13, 2014, the original Blogger RPG Maker…

Bank Tutorial Using Events (RM2K3/XP/VX/VXA)

Bank Tutorial The Bank Tutorial (all versions) is finally online! According to October 2012’s poll, the majority voted for a simple event-based bank system as the next tutorial. So, here it is. Note that this is not a complete step-by-step tutorial, but a rough guide for creating our banking system. Instead, each RPG Maker tutorial can be downloaded and, once installed, can be scrutinised.

Chapter 8: Items by Level (Hero Level) – The Complete Chests Tutorial

Chests can contain higher-level items, such as weapons, which are only accessible when a character reaches a certain level. If the character is the required level, they can open the chest, otherwise it remains closed.
