Terms of Use for Scripts/Plugins Updated

The Terms of Use for Scripts/Plugins has now been updated. All RPG Maker XP, VX and VX Ace scripts can now be used freely in both commercial and non-commercial projects with proper credit. RPG Maker MV plugins can be used in non-commercial projects only. However, a license granting non-exclusive use in commercial projects can be purchased for a small fee (to cover costs and distribution). Be sure to read the Terms of Use for each section and, if you have any questions or concerns, for now I can be contacted at RPG Maker MV until a proper system is in place on this blogsite.

Tweak: Global Comma Delimeters (VX/VXA)

Following on from yesterday’s post to address an error that occurred in RMVXA, this expands on that idea. What if you want comma delimeters globally, such as in shops when you buy and sell items? You don’t need to fiddle with the Window_Gold, Window_ShopBuy or Window_ShopSell windows to do it. That would cause too many conflicts. Instead, we can set up a basic method to insert commas in larger numbers that affects all areas where currency is used. Note: This is only relevant for RMVX and RMVXA. It most likely is possible in RMXP, but due to the way RGSS is structured I’m not willing to do it, as it…

Changes For All Downloads

Scripts/Scriptlets As of 31 March, 2015, scripts and scriptlets will no longer be downloadable directly from this website. Instead, they will become available on my Pastebin account. Manuals Any manuals for the scripts, notably the Q-Engine and its add-ons, will be hosted and available for download elsewhere too. Most likely this will be Google Docs. Tools & Utilities The tools & utilities I’m currently hosting here will also be removed from the site and hosted elsewhere or links for direct downloads (for those that are still available) will be given instead. Reasons The reasons behind this are manifold, but the major one is that, due to rapid and unexpected growth…

Scripts/Scriptlets Updates

I have two days off (from tomorrow) so will spend the time tweaking and updating all Scripts/Scriptlets. They’ll also be uploaded to Pastebin, providing the option to copy and paste them directly or download a text version from the site. Saturday is my last work-night before I have a week’s holiday, which will give me the chance to finally make some proper progress on my project, Otherworld. I’m hoping to finally publish Version 4.0 of the Q-Engine, along with its add-ons, following some additional testing and tweaks. We’ll see how things go. My priority IS Otherworld, however, and creating something of more substance.

A Few Site Upgrades

Over the course of the next few weeks, I’m planning a few site upgrades to make things easier. Overall Improvements The primary focus is on improving overall performance and speed, reducing some of the clutter that’s developed because the blogsite has become quite large. This includes rewriting the taxonomy, categories/tags, and sidebar displays and, of course, this may take some time so I’ll start with the most popular posts/pages and sections and work from there. Improving overall SEO is also a must. Many fetch bots have encountered a few errors as well, often increasing the bounce rate and decreasing performance. Navigation/Page Menu The navigation is rather cluttered in my opinion…

Otherworld Progress…Hmmm!

It’s the little niggly things that cause the blank stares: a missing closing bracket here, an extra end there, or an unlinked snippet of code you really have no clue why you wrote in the first place. Sarcasm aside, to be fair, some noticeable progress is being made on Otherworld. I’m in the process of converting the Map/Compass HUD (for RMXP) to RMVXA but specifically designed for Otherworld. It’s only hard-going because I’m too tired. The moral would be don’t do it right after an 8-hour shift at work, having not slept for 16 hours! I might as well go to sleep and start working on it again afterwards!

Single Key Shut Down Scriptlet

The Keypress Shut Down Scriptlet provides a means to easily and quickly shut down your RPG Maker game by pressing a key, rather than manually closing it via the Title or Status menus or clicking the X in the top right-hand corner of the window. Originally, it was created in RMVX, born out of boredom and experimentation, but it should work for RMVXA as well.

Visual Equip Script (RMVXA)

The Visual Equip script allows you to change the graphic of the character according to equipment and other conditions. It’s also possible to set custom graphics to actors, classes, weapons, armours and events. You can also head over to Candy Coded Response for some additional graphics sets, including armour, hairstyles and accessories. Note: This requires the Victor Engine – Basic Module to run.

RPG Maker Times Blog v6

RPG Maker Times Blog

Welcome to the RPG Maker Times blogsite. Version 6 has been moved to Dreamhost. This web host is highly recommended! It’s fast, secure and affordable! Anyway, the blog has a new, more dynamic layout. It was redesigned to reflect the changes to the blog itself. I’m updating the style sheets slowly so that I can focus more on content. Many pages have been (or are being) merged, deleted or revamped accordingly. While I don’t have the time to update earlier posts, new updates will still be posted, of course. These include upcoming games (notably for RMMV), projects or plugins of note. From February 13, 2014, the original Blogger RPG Maker…

RMVX Ace Windowskins – Tutorial

There has been a flurry of questions about RMVXA windowskins. Essentially they are the same as RMVX, so any windowskin designed for RMVX will also work with RMVXA. As with RMVX, use the Resource Manager (F10) in RMVXA to import the chosen windowskin into the Graphics/System folder. When used in a game, they will look almost the same (see the comparisons below). However, RMVXA has additional colour settings that override the background graphic normally displayed in RMVX, resulting in only the border and cursor from the windowskin showing and the background becomes the default window colors. As you can see, the windowskins are the same, but with the background overridden…
