RM2K3 and XP Pages Archived

Pretitle Movie Snapshot

The pages for 2K3 and XP moved to Archives, while the posts remain intact. Reasons The reason for this is because I no longer use them, so no longer actively support them. The focus is now on VX, VX Ace, MV and Smile Game Builder. This is part of RPG Maker Times‘s spring cleaning and renovation. Most of the updates will be on Smile Game Builder and MV now, with occasional updates for the other second-generation RPG Makers.

Is It Legal To Change The Game.exe Icon?

I came across a question a few weeks ago about the legality of using such software as Resource Hacker to change the Game.exe icon, so I thought I’d answer it. First of all, according to the EULA: Licensee shall not reverse engineer, de-compile, or disassemble the Software. which means, in short, that technically it IS illegal, since you’re modifying something that is part of the "Software", i.e. RPG Maker. With that said, however, you’re not actually directly modifying the software itself, only the game’s icon for creating shortcuts. And, since there isn’t an apparent option for the INI to use an icon, for some developers having a game-exclusive icon is…

AnimGet

Direct Download The primary purpose of AnimGet (or Animation Get) is to extract animation frames for use in RPG Maker (or other animation programs). When activated, it will work in the background, taking snapshots every 10 milliseconds, which can then be rendered in a suitable graphics program, such as Paint Shop Pro. In the beginning, AnimGet was used in conjunction with various emulators, particularly the NES or SNES ones, to capture sprite or battle animations. These could then be rendered and ported into RM2K/3 for use in games. Copyrights were flouted in those days, but that didn’t stop the mass productions of RM2K/3 made Final Fantasy or Zelda fan games!…

ResHack

Direct DownloadIt appears the downloadlink is offline. Update soon. ResHack (short for Resource Hack) is a great utility that allows modification of games or RM2K/3 settings. Game icons, logos, text, individual settings, etc. can be modified to suit individual needs. For the most part, ResHack is used primarily to alter the “default” icons and in-game graphics, as well as some information about the game. Other icon files can be used for this purpose and then the EXE file is re-compiled accordingly. Note: It is against Enterbrain’s Terms & Conditions to directly modify the RPG Maker program, Runtime Package (RTP), and resources, but the English versions of RM2K/3 were never "legal"…

Miscellaneous Utilities

A number of useful utilities to aid in game-making with RM2K3 have been produced, aside from the Character Creators. The following utilities are designed for "hacking" resources: ResHack (RM2K/3) – Short for Resource Hack, this great utility allows the hacking of games or RM2K. With it, game icons, text, etc. can be modified to suit individual needs. RM Reck (RM2K/3) – Similar to ResHack (above), it allows game icon, glyphs, and even logo screens to be changed. This is compatible with both RM2K and RM2K3.
