Neglected But Not Forgotten

Pretitle Movie Snapshot

Sadly, I’ve neglected this blog, but haven’t forgotten about it. It’s constantly in the back of my mind. I frequently entertain grand notions that one day I’ll uber-update it with all the latest RPG Maker news. This includes my own RPG Maker related projects. Unfortunately, this never seems to happen. This isn’t because of lack of commitment or dedication, however; it’s simply that I don’t have enough time. Since I usually work three nights out of the week, this leaves me four days to work on various projects. Actually, essentially it’s three days because I take a day off to rest and recuperate, and catch up on some well-needed sleep….

My Smile Game Builder Experiments

Smile Game Builder

For awhile I’ve tweeted about Smile Game Builder and my foray into the new RPG Maker. So I decided to conglomerate them into a single post to save time and space. This serves a dual purpose. Not only does it showcase various features of Smile Game Builder, it also shows my beta-testing experiments. These aren’t in any particular order. In many cases, I tried to customize graphics as part of the experimentation. Some of it went well, some of it didn’t. Custom Title Experiment The title screen resolution in Smile Game Builder is 960×544. I created this with the first beta build I tested. The cursor is also custom-made for…

Where Does Magic Come From In Otherworld And Gaia’s Dream?

Mythos/Lore

RPG Maker Web posed an interesting – and valid – question on Twitter about the source of magic in game developers’ worlds. This isn’t something I really thought about before, probably because I’m not that far in system development yet. I’ve focused mainly on story and plot, as well as character development. So, I started thinking about the subject. It’s one of those important things, after all, and one that merits consideration because in virtually every game there’s some kind of "magic" system in place. Most commonly, magic uses Mana or Magic Points (often abbreviated to MP), but some have their roots in spiritual energies or even in technology. Game…

All Projects Updates

RPG Maker Times Projects

While updates have been few and far between because of the usual suspects (work, chores and other projects), there have been plenty of updates as far as RPG Maker is concerned. To prevent further stagnation, on some of my days off I’ll be writing and scheduling several posts so that they can be spread out over the week. And I’ll try to be as consistent as possible with them. Topics will range from plugins (both my own and others’) to games to news. All RPG Maker related, of course! Newly released resources from RPG Maker Web will also be posted. Any updates on the projects I’m working on will be…

Adventures of Tryggr Troll – Offical RMMV Game

It’s now official! Tryggr the Troll WILL have his own interactive-fiction style RPG Maker MV game! And he’ll eventually have his own website! He’s rather excited, as we are! Can you tell? Tryggr is a character I created a while ago using Daz3D just for fun. Since then I’ve been creating various poses and scenes for him. When RPG Maker MV was officially released, I received my copy (having preordered it) and started playing around with the new RPG Maker. The result was a very short something, purely to test its HTML5 and Android capabilities. When I showed the wife, she became quite animated and told me that it had…

Otherworld Progress…Hmmm!

It’s the little niggly things that cause the blank stares: a missing closing bracket here, an extra end there, or an unlinked snippet of code you really have no clue why you wrote in the first place. Sarcasm aside, to be fair, some noticeable progress is being made on Otherworld. I’m in the process of converting the Map/Compass HUD (for RMXP) to RMVXA but specifically designed for Otherworld. It’s only hard-going because I’m too tired. The moral would be don’t do it right after an 8-hour shift at work, having not slept for 16 hours! I might as well go to sleep and start working on it again afterwards!

Update: 3D Resources Fun

As my foray into Daz3D and Bryce continues, I’m having a lot of fun creating 3D content and scenes. I realized that Daz3D has changed a lot since I last used it – I think version 2 or 3 (it’s now up to 4.6). I also recently acquired Bryce and Poser, although I’ve not really done anything with them yet. These aren’t particularly good, but I’ve added them here to give a rough idea of where I’m intending to go. Although Daz3D is easy to use, I’m still going through as many tutorials as I can. Getting the resources – whether charsets, portraits or battlers – just right can be…
