Q-Engine v5.0 In Progress – Improvements

The Q-Engine and its add-ons are undergoing some improvements. This is primarily to remove the dependency on the UCSM. Instead, the Q-Engine will contain the global settings required for the main scripts and the relevant configuration settings will be placed in the add-ons themselves. This will make it much easier to tweak rather than relying on a single configuration to set them. I’ll also be creating a downloadable demo (finally), which will enable you to install the Q-Engine and all of its available add-ons without having to copy and paste them individually. I’m making this a priority over the next few weeks to get this done as quickly as possible…

Otherworld Progress…Hmmm!

It’s the little niggly things that cause the blank stares: a missing closing bracket here, an extra end there, or an unlinked snippet of code you really have no clue why you wrote in the first place. Sarcasm aside, to be fair, some noticeable progress is being made on Otherworld. I’m in the process of converting the Map/Compass HUD (for RMXP) to RMVXA but specifically designed for Otherworld. It’s only hard-going because I’m too tired. The moral would be don’t do it right after an 8-hour shift at work, having not slept for 16 hours! I might as well go to sleep and start working on it again afterwards!

Update: 3D Resources Fun

As my foray into Daz3D and Bryce continues, I’m having a lot of fun creating 3D content and scenes. I realized that Daz3D has changed a lot since I last used it – I think version 2 or 3 (it’s now up to 4.6). I also recently acquired Bryce and Poser, although I’ve not really done anything with them yet. These aren’t particularly good, but I’ve added them here to give a rough idea of where I’m intending to go. Although Daz3D is easy to use, I’m still going through as many tutorials as I can. Getting the resources – whether charsets, portraits or battlers – just right can be…

Projects Updates

Keep up-to-date with the latest projects I’m working on.

Project Update: The Paranormality Trilogy

The Paranormality trilogy is a series of games for RPG Maker, loosely based on a set of unpublished short stories and novellas I wrote, actually inspired by some of my own experiences. The entire trilogy focuses around paranormal investigator Jack Urban. Alyssa, his sister, disappeared under mysterious circumstances, so his mission has become to find out exactly what happened to her. His quest for the truth will take him to the Other Side and back, pitting him against some of the most nefarious daemons in the Seven Realms. Portals revolves around the events leading up to her disappearance and is the prequel to Darkling for RMVX and Nexus for RMVXA…

What Happened To The Paranormality Webisodes?

I was asked the other day about what happened to the “Paranormality Webisodes” I started doing. Well, several things really. The first is that the motherboard on my previous computer started going out and, despite a lot of upgrades, it become irreparable without major additional cost. I decided that it was better in the long run to just buy a new computer. The storyboard and resources are still stuck on its hard drive without an immediate solution to transfer the files. I guess I could invest in an IDE to USB cable, but that’s not top of my priority list right now. The second thing is that since I started…

Paranormality: Darkling – Project In Development (RMVXA)

The project, Paranormality: Darkling, has been restarted. Since I bought RMVXA, I’ve been experimenting with it quite extensively and decided to use it for this project to take advantage of many of its additional features and functions. The primary resource used is the Mythos Horror Resource Pack and I’ll be purchasing several other resource packs as the project progresses as well. I’ve also designed two windowskins specifically for the project and will be (attempting on) creating some customized graphics, including icons, of my own. The game is entirely mouse-driven, using Amaranth’s Super Simple Mouse System for Ace, replete with customized icons. To keep up-to-date with its progress, be sure to…

Paranormality: Darkling Official Projects Site

Since I’ve now bought a copy of RPG Maker VX Ace, I’ve been focusing on familiarising myself with its features, functions and script. The projects site for Paranormality: Darkling is now online and will be updated as and when updates to the project are finished. Here is the final opening (animated) title screen: I’ve been writing most of the scripts myself, porting over some of the RMVX scripts I’ve done, particularly the Extra Stats script, which is being updated for both and will be updated after my interview.
