Yes, it’s official! RPG Maker 2003 has been officially translated into English and is now available on Steam.
I just bought it to add to my Steam collection. I now have them all in one convenient place.
When I first discovered RM95 all those years ago, and then RM2K, even though they weren’t officially translated into English, when RM2K3 was "released" it put me on a life-changing journey. I’ve not looked back since.
RPG Maker 2003 is actually what really got me started. I’d played all the classic RPGs, like Final Fantasy, Chronotrigger and Ys: The Vanished Omens and always wanted to create my own games.
With RM2K3, I was able to. It opened up an entire realm of possibilities. The first game I "officially" released on the engine was a gladiatorial hack-and-slash with RPG elements, entitled Arena Gladiatorium. Sadly, that original is long gone, lost in the mists of time, but a redux version is in the works for RMVXA (currently deferred).
Having RM2K3 on Steam has actually renewed my interest in the maker. In fact, in a recent poll I did, RM2K3 was the third most used RPG Maker. So, future tutorials will include how-to’s for RM2K3 where appropriate.
