What’s Been Going On? What Happened?

It certainly has been a long time since I updated this blog. I’m still here, still plodding on, but what happened? YouTube Pushback When YouTube introduced their new monetization criteria for channels, my channel was demonetized for not meeting them. It pushed me back. I became enraged and felt as though the rug was pulled aggressively from under my feet. Many others feel the same way too! This happened right when RPG Maker Times‘s rebranding (including its YouTube channel) was almost complete. Fueled by the emotional response, I started looking for alternatives to YouTube and ultimately became distracted by other things, other projects, and other avenues. This meant that I…

QEngine: Message Add-On Plugin Showcase

QEngine: Message Add-On Plugin

The video showcase of my upcoming RPG Maker MV Message Add-On plugin for the QEngine is online. Showcase Video The following video details the text codes available for the Message Add-On plugin, but not how to use them (that’s in the help file). Both the QEngine and Message Add-On plugins aren’t available yet, except for my valued beta-testers. What Is The QEngine? For those who don’t know, the QEngine is a core plugin I started writing (and continued writing on and off) for awhile now for RPG Maker MV. Its main purpose is to add extra functions to enable cross-compatibility and usability with most (if not all) of my plugins,…

QEngine: Message Add-On Showcase – Uploaded Later

QEngine: Message Add-On Plugin

A bit later today (if all goes well), I’m showcasing my Message Add-On plugin for RPG Maker MV on YouTube. This is one of the add-ons for the QEngine, on which it relies to function. You can add things like full name, gender and gender-based pronouns to messages; things that aren’t in other message plugins. The QEngine‘s scheduled release (including its current add-ons) for this month is deferred. However, some of my beta-testers found some bugs or have made suggestions, so I’m dealing with them first.

The Gladiator Project – An Old Game Revisited

The Gladiator Project

Six years ago today, The Gladiator Project was actively in development for RPG Maker. It was an ambitious project, based on my personal interest in and fascination with the Roman Empire. Sadly, for various reasons, I abandoned the project. And there it remains, gathering dust. So What Happened? The Gladiator Project was first developed for RMXP, based on its original hack-and-slash concept for RM2K3, but highly expanded. It then migrated to RMVX, where further expansion took place (including customized graphics). To begin with, I wasn’t very competent at RGSS and frequently lurked in forums to try and learn from others’ scripts. I eventually emerged from the shadows to ask how…

A Frustrated Roar from Tryggr!

Frustration! And a frustrated roar from Tryggr to match! Why So Frustrated? The best time management and pre-planning doesn’t factor the body’s needs for rest into the equation. The brain tends to ignore the alarm clock and makes you over-oversleep, especially on those precious days off. We all have to work to pay the bills and to make ends meet. Even for the simplest pleasures in life. Work often takes over our lives in order to fulfill the demands of living. This often leaves less time to dedicate specifically to game development. Lately especially, the frustration stems from seemingly not having enough personal time. Even if survival on a minimal…

QEngine: Extra Message Codes Add-On Release Next Month

QEngine MV

QEngine MV As many of you may know by now, development on the QEngine for RPG Maker MV began some time ago. And it has continued on and off since then. Originally written for VX, its purpose was to incorporate all of my scripts from the former Scripts/Add-Ons Compendium. However, over time, I added several additional options, functions and features to it. And then, with its port-over to MV, came additional functions previously unavailable in its VX counterpart. Although, technically, it was possible to achieve this in RGSS2, I found it easier in JavaScript (because of my previous web design background). Once I started learning MV’s JavaScript architecture, I added…

RM2K3 and XP Pages Archived

Pretitle Movie Snapshot

The pages for 2K3 and XP moved to Archives, while the posts remain intact. Reasons The reason for this is because I no longer use them, so no longer actively support them. The focus is now on VX, VX Ace, MV and Smile Game Builder. This is part of RPG Maker Times‘s spring cleaning and renovation. Most of the updates will be on Smile Game Builder and MV now, with occasional updates for the other second-generation RPG Makers.

RPG Maker MV Now for Linux

RPG Maker MV

RPG Maker Web announced their Linux support for RPG Maker MV!! And over 1,000,000 sales! Don’t forget the sale!!

Spring Cleaning and Renovation

RPG Maker Times Blog

After my previous post, Neglected But Not Forgotten, I started thinking. Since yesterday was officially the First Day of Spring, I figured it was time to spring-clean the site. Careful Consideration After carefully considering on the best course of action for this, I decided to drop support for 2K3 and XP. These two RPG Makers seem less predominant nowadays, and besides I no longer actively use them. While some game developers may still use them, according to general statistics, their usage is less frequent in favor of VX, VX Ace and MV. Hence, the decision. Most of the current posts containing references to 2K3 and XP will remain intact. However,…

Neglected But Not Forgotten

Pretitle Movie Snapshot

Sadly, I’ve neglected this blog, but haven’t forgotten about it. It’s constantly in the back of my mind. I frequently entertain grand notions that one day I’ll uber-update it with all the latest RPG Maker news. This includes my own RPG Maker related projects. Unfortunately, this never seems to happen. This isn’t because of lack of commitment or dedication, however; it’s simply that I don’t have enough time. Since I usually work three nights out of the week, this leaves me four days to work on various projects. Actually, essentially it’s three days because I take a day off to rest and recuperate, and catch up on some well-needed sleep….
